Magic Leap now offers Iris ID, a feature that allows you to unlock your device handsfree. When you set up Iris ID on your device, an algorithm will create a template from your iris that is designed to be unique to you. To create your template, the eye cameras capture images of your eyes. These images are then processed on the Lightwear and run through proprietary algorithms to generate a template (a filtered image of your iris based on binary data strings). Our Iris ID feature is designed to store your template encrypted in a restricted area on your Lightpack. Every time you use Iris ID, this template creation process is repeated and if the template is deemed to match the one generated at enrollment, your device will be unlocked. Iris ID is designed for use only with the Magic Leap ecosystem – it is not designed to enable anybody to authenticate or identify you anywhere else.
Iris ID enrollment is not mandatory and you may elect to continue to use your passcode or not to restrict access to your device. Magic Leap recommends you use at least a passcode to help protect your device from unauthorized access. If you enable Iris ID, you still will be required to set up a device passcode and you will be required to enter your passcode at least once before you can use your iris to unlock the device. Should you choose to no longer use Iris ID, you can change your settings at any time. You will need to authenticate with your passcode to make this change. When you disable Iris ID, the template stored on your Lightpack will be deleted.
